2016-2017 Highlander Fund Goal: $175,000
Why is the Highlander Fund so important?
This year over $100,000 in scholarships helped 35 of our students attend KDS, but much more is needed. Making a Christian education accessible to our current families and teaching the truth of God’s Word are our highest priorities. Our Scholarship Program makes Christian education at Kirk Day School available to more covenant families who may be unable to afford tuition.
Smart Boards, digital projectors, iPads, laptops, etc. have proven to be valuable tools to aid our teachers, not only as they implement and enrich the curriculum, but also as they engage students in the learning process. Last year, we updated technology in all of our 1st-6th grade and special services classrooms. This year, our goal is to equip the remaining co-curricular classrooms with this technology.
The faculty at KDS is continually challenged to come up with innovative ideas to further enhance the education experiences of our students. These ideas are submitted as proposals for consideration. Students have already begun planting and conducting science experiments thanks to the KDS Garden Project, and the Hallway Renovation Project has brightened up the KDS classroom area with colorful murals. Both of these projects will continue to be funded through the Highlander Fund.
Curriculum and Resources
Kirk Day School reviews and analyzes its curriculum and resources, subject-by-subject, with a seven-year cycle. Each year the faculty is involved in studying best practices in one specific area of the curriculum and determining which resources and supplemental materials will help us deliver an excellent education to our students. The Highlander Fund helps provide funds to keep these resources current.
